Cookie policy

This page explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on PetCareConnect.

1. In short

PetCareConnect does not use any advertising cookies and does not rely on any third-party analytics tool: no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no ad network.

We measure site traffic with a tool we host ourselves, which sets no cookie and reads nothing on your device (section 3). This basic measurement does not require your consent.

Separately, we offer you (and only if you agree) a finer measurement, which does write to your device and is therefore subject to an explicit request (section 4). Declining takes nothing away from the site.

Summary of the trackers we use (none of them is a cookie; everything stays on our servers or in your browser):

  • Login token (local storage): keeps you logged in. Strictly necessary, deleted when you log out. No consent needed.
  • Consent choice "pcc_consent" (local storage): remembers your answer to the banner. Strictly necessary. No consent needed.
  • Audience measurement (Umami): counts visits without writing anything to your device. Data kept for 24 months. No consent needed (section 3).
  • Visitor ID "pcc_visitor" (local storage): tells a first visit apart from a return visit. Only with your consent, erased as soon as you withdraw it (section 4).
  • Session replay and heatmaps: help us understand where visitors hesitate, with typed input masked. Only with your consent, deleted after 90 days (section 4).

2. Strictly necessary storage

To keep you logged in, we store an authentication token in your browser’s local storage ("localStorage"). This storage is strictly necessary for the service you request (logging into your account), is used for no other purpose and is never shared with third parties. The display language is handled locally, without cookies.

We also store your answer to the consent banner there. Without it, you would be asked again on every page and your refusal could not be respected: it is therefore strictly necessary storage, which does not require consent.

3. Audience measurement, without cookies

To know how many people visit the site and which pages interest them, we use Umami, an audience measurement tool we host on our own server, in the European Union. No data is passed to any third party.

This tool sets no cookie, writes nothing to local storage and reads no information stored on your device. That is why no consent banner is shown for it: the prior-consent requirement laid down in Article 129 of the Belgian law of 13 June 2005 on electronic communications only applies to storing or reading information on your device.

What we record for each visit:

  • a visit identifier, computed from technical data and specific to this site: it cannot be used to follow you on other sites;
  • the pages viewed, the date and time;
  • the type of browser, operating system and device, screen size and language;
  • the country, region and city, derived from your IP address using a database installed on our server;
  • two voluntary actions, if you take them: joining the waiting list and searching for a professional (the profession searched for and the postcode entered).

Your IP address is only used, during processing, to compute the visit identifier and derive the approximate location. It is neither recorded nor kept. No advertising profile is built, and this data is never matched with your account.

The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used in order to improve it (Article 6.1.f GDPR). You can object at any time by writing to the address given at the end of this page: we will then stop counting your visits.

4. With your consent, and only then

If you accept via the banner, two things are added. They require writing to your device, hence the prior request.

  • A visitor identifier, a random value stored in your browser’s local storage. It lets us tell a first visit apart from a return visit, which the basic measurement cannot do. It is linked neither to your account, nor to your name, nor to your email.
  • Session replay: recording your journey on the page (scrolling, hovering, clicks) to understand where visitors hesitate and fix what gets in the way.

What the replay never records: the content of what you type. All form fields are masked, and password fields are excluded from recording altogether. A recording lasts at most five minutes and, like everything else, stays on our servers; nothing is passed to any third party.

Retention: journey recordings and heatmaps are deleted automatically after 90 days; audience statistics after 24 months. This deletion runs every night, without any action on our part.

You can change your choice at any time via the "Preferences" link at the bottom of the page. Withdrawing immediately erases the visitor identifier from your browser and stops recording.

Legal basis: your consent (Article 6.1.a GDPR), freely given and revocable without justification.

5. Managing storage

You can clear your browser’s storage at any time; you will then simply be logged out. No essential feature depends on non-essential cookies.

6. Changes

Should we ever introduce an advertising cookie or a third-party analytics tool, we would update this page and ask for your prior consent.
